Packing List for a Motorcycle Tour
Packing List for a Motorcycle Tour
Category: Motorcycle Tours | Precautions
Pack light, not everything
A motorcycle tour is not a moving wardrobe. Everything you pack must fit on the motorcycle, stay organised and still leave the bike balanced and easy to handle. The goal is simple: bring what you really need, not everything you might possibly use.
Think in riding days, not hotel days
For a 10–20 day guided motorcycle tour, you do not need fresh clothing for every single day. Most tours include hotel stops where laundry is possible. A realistic setup is usually 4–6 T-shirts, 4–5 sets of underwear, 4–5 pairs of socks, one warm layer and one light casual outfit.
Keep weight low and balanced
Heavy items belong low in the side panniers, not high in the top case. Keep daily essentials easy to reach and avoid overloading the rear of the motorcycle. A lighter bike is easier to manoeuvre, especially on ferries, hotel parking areas, mountain roads and tight village streets.
Bring smart extras, not workshop equipment
A few small extras can be useful: charging cables, a travel adapter, sunglasses, sunscreen, medication you personally need and a compact rain layer. On guided MotoGS WorldTours tours with provided motorcycles, riders do not need to bring tools, oil, tyre repair kits or workshop equipment.
Documents stay with you
Passport, motorcycle licence, International Driving Permit where needed, credit cards, emergency contacts and insurance documents should stay with you, not deep inside a pannier. Keep digital copies in secure cloud storage and carry the most important originals in a small waterproof bag.
Use the luggage system properly
Packing cubes or small inner bags make life easier on a motorcycle tour. Separate riding clothes, casual clothes, underwear, hygiene items and electronics. This saves space, keeps the panniers organised and avoids unpacking the entire motorcycle every evening.
The short motorcycle tour packing list
For most guided motorcycle tours, this compact list is enough:
- 4–6 T-shirts or base layers
- 4–5 sets of underwear
- 4–5 pairs of socks
- 1 warm fleece or mid-layer
- 1 light casual outfit
- 1 pair of comfortable shoes or sandals
- swimwear where relevant
- compact toiletry kit
- personal medication
- sunscreen and sunglasses
- rain protection
- phone, charger and travel adapter
- passport or ID
- motorcycle licence
- International Driving Permit where required
- credit card and some cash
- travel insurance and emergency contact details
Before packing, check your route, weather, documents and insurance. Useful MotoGS WorldTours information includes:

- motorcycle excess insurance
- Global Rescue travel support.
Pack light, stay organised and keep the motorcycle easy to handle. A good motorcycle tour is about the road, the route and the people — not about carrying half your wardrobe across Europe or New Zealand..
